With the popularity of basketball, almost everyone keeps a tab on what happens in the NBA. With LeBron James at the forefront, fans have been witnessing elite basketball from the 39-year-old for over two decades. In that time, he has established himself as one of the best to ever play the game. But in the GOAT conversation, he is often squared against Michael Jordan. In the midst of this never-ending debate, Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs were asked who they think is the greatest of all time.
The Chiefs were holding their practices at their facilities. After the practice, as the players walked to their locker room, the Kansas City Chiefs official TikTok account raised the question. As they went by, they mentioned who they think is the GOAT.
Kelce went with his fellow Ohio native and suggested there is something in the water of Ohio that keeps making superstar athletes. Travis Kelce and his brother Jason Kelce are bonafide superstars in the NFL. But the rest of his teammates have varying views. Some said it is without a doubt Michael Jordan. Then some had Kobe Bryant in the mix. However, at the end of the vote, 17 nods went to the Los Angeles Lakers superstar.
It is not a knock on Jordan or any other player. Just that the 39-year-old has represented greatness all throughout his career. If only he had more championship-capable teammates, he could have won more NBA titles. That would have cemented his status as the GOAT.
LeBron James is already the all-time leading scorer in league history. Unless someone comes along and plays at an extremely high level, or the NBA progresses to a more scorer-friendly game, it is likely to stay that way for a long time. However, he also is 4th all-time in assists, that too as a forward. He also heads all non-post players in rebounds.
All those stats aside, LeBron James knows he still lacks a few things to cement his legacy. He may not get a chance to match Michael Jordan in NBA titles. But he can do a couple of things at this age which could set him apart. One is to win another gold medal. But more importantly, win the MVP award at the Paris Olympics.
Currently, he is leading the men’s tournament in the MVP race. His next closest competitor is who he will face today in the semifinals. If Team USA wins, that will automatically make him the clear leader heading into the gold medal round. Win the MVP and gold, and basketball fans will finally crown him the GOAT.
